We work with our own students, primary schools, special schools and other organisations to raise the achievement of both science and maths by:
Organising events aimed at engaging parents and families in science related activities such as making bat boxes, inspiring talks and hands on maths
Providing a programme for maths master classes aimed at year 5 and 6 students from across the borough
Running primary days for year 4,5 and 6 students. This has included ‘messy science’ sessions run by our young science ambassadors, visits from London zoo and planting food seeds
Promoting and maintaining links with community groups and local organisations. We are an associate school with the Royal Society and are planning cross borough events with the Horniman museum, Stephen Lawrence Trust and Forest Hill library.
Providing CPD for teachers and teaching assistants
Building links with Scientific bodies such as;
- Royal Society (Associate School, Lewisham)
- Association for Science Education(South East London hub)
- Royal Institution(school members)
- Zoological Society of London(annual programme outreach)
- Science Museum
Promoting Science week across borough with interested parties eg. Hornimans, SLCT, Devonshire Road nature reserve. Sydenham School worked with Lewisham LEA and the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. We began Science Week with a family day, ‘Science gets fruity’, where families made their own musical instruments from vegetables.
