Subject Leader Citizenship & PSE
PSE and Citizenship is delivered by specialist teachers as a discreet subject which we find enables us to meet our targets in this area.It is the aim of the PSE and Citizenship department at Sydenham School to provide all key stage 3 and 4 students with a broad, balanced and relevant Personal, Social and Citizenship education. Our aims include delivering the PSHEE and Citizenship curriculum to all students to develop their knowledge and understanding of issues that affect them and to gain confidence in dealing with their relationships, growing up and empowering them to make positive choices in their lives. Through the study of PSE we encourage students to develop interpersonal skills, gain a greater knowledge and understanding and encourage all students to reach their potential. Topics covered in our curriculum at KS3 and KS4 are:
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Sex and Relationships Education
- Economic Wellbeing
- Drugs Education
At KS4 Year 11 students undertake the OCR GCSE in Citizenship. The study of Citizenship is about enabling citizens to make their own decisions and to take responsibility for their own lives and their communities. This is a subject that encourages active citizenship and enables students to consider local, national and international issues. Students respond well to this subject and enjoy the varied and challenging learning experience where they can actively participate in to make a difference. This is demonstrated in our consistently high GCSE results.
