Our specialism and our whole school STEM focus work to ensure that our girls are particularly well prepared for careers of the future involving Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. We are committed to providing additional opportunities for our students through our close links with Imperial College and our environmental and sustainable development work. Through activities as varied as attendance at an Imperial College Maths Summer school, taking part in a STEM deep learning day, visiting the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales with the Engineering Club, becoming a Science Ambassador working with local primaries, working in our organic garden or feeding our free range chickens; we aim to ensure that every Sydenham student’s experience is enriched through our specialism.
We aim to ensure that we have Science and Maths courses to meet the needs of all our students, and to spread our enthusiasm and expertise in these areas throughout the wider community of primary schools, parents and local organisations.
In 2008 Sydenham was recognised as a High Performing Specialist School and awarded another Specialism (RAPP) which gives us additional funding to work with other schools, helping them to improve their practice through sharing our expertise. We use our RAPP status to be at the forefront of national developments in teaching and learning and improve the quality of our provision still further, ensuring that our specialisms impact on achievement and enjoyment for all.
