Parent Teacher Association

Welcome to Year 7

Huge welcome to our new and existing year 7 parents.   We have a long standing and much loved tradition of welcoming the  new Year 7 group to the school with a PTA hosted Picnic in the Horniman Gardens.   This is an informal event for parents and students to meet each other, the PTA and some key Teachers.   The feedback from this event is very positive as there are many less opportunities to meet each other without the school gates drop off from Primary School.

We hope you can make it on the day, if it rains we will be in the small rooms next to the coffee shop by the farm animals.   Look out for our PTA banner.

If you have not already linked on to the PTA social media links this can be a great way to keep in touch with events and other happenings at the school – Join our facebook page, check out our website  follow us on Twitter  and join our mailing list.

Help us raise funds

One of the key aims of any PTA is to raise funds for the school here are two easy ways to help;

Help us raise more funds while you do your Christmas shopping.

Many of us will be shopping on-line again this year,  and it’s a great way to easily raise funds for the school.  Now we are registered charity you  can do this through Amazon Smile  We  will keep you updated of how much we raise this way!

And we also have Sydenham School PTA Fundraising | Easyfundraising for other purchases.

It’s easy to set up and use and we are now covered for all online shopping this Christmas!  Help if you can.

Sydenham School PTA was established in 2013. We are run by parent volunteers and work closely with school staff to raise funds and support events for the school and school community. The PTA is jointly chaired and supported by a number of committee posts including: finance, communications, graphic design and membership.

The money raised by the PTA, through events and other activities, helps buy equipment and resources, funds extra-curricular opportunities, and supports participation for all students.
Last year we organised a Welcome Picnic for Year 7 students and families, a celebration of International Women’s Day, a Quiz & Curry Night for parents, teachers and governors, and SydFest, an inter-school bands competition. We also provided the refreshments for many school concerts and shows.

Regular Meetings
The PTA meets once a term in the school library, where we plan the fundraising events for the year and discuss the activities and tasks that volunteers might be needed for.
Meetings are open to all parents and carers and are a great way to meet others, share ideas and help to raise funds for the school.

Why get involved
Most parents and carers volunteer their time because they want to make a difference for their child and other pupils at the school by:
• fundraising for items that the school could not otherwise afford
• supporting the extended services agenda
• supporting school events
• helping to provide a richer education.
It is also fun, enjoyable and rewarding. Being an active PTA volunteer can be an opportunity to learn new and valuable skills, make friends, feel part of the community and enjoy making a difference.
