We are very proud of all of our students at Sydenham School this year. Although it has been an unprecedented year, our students have secured strong GCSE results in a range of subjects. This is a true reflection of their hard work, resilience and determination to do their very best throughout the 3 years that they have been studying their GCSEs.
77% of students achieved a grade 4 and above in English and Maths and 58% at 5 and above. Nearly 63% of all entries gained a grade 7 (A) or above and 82% of entries gained a grade 6 (B) or above.
Our Maths results have risen to 79% and English results remain in the high 80%+.
15 students achieved grades 7-9 in all of their GCSEs. Notable performances include Anna M who achieved grade 9s in every single one of her 11 GCSE subjects; Morag H who was awarded 10 grade 9s and 1 grade 8 and Simiola Musa who achieved 7 grade 9s and 4 grade 8s.
Headteacher Gloria Lowe stated, “We are very pleased to be able to share these outcomes with you. As ever, our focus during these complex times has been to support our students and work together to ensure that the results our students were awarded reflected their efforts and determination to succeed. Today’s results represent the collective hard work of students and staff together and the school community is proud of all of our students who have done so very well. We pride ourselves on being a fully comprehensive school that enables our students to make choices that open doors to successful futures. We would also like to thank our families and Governors for their ongoing support of all of the work that the school continues to do on behalf of our wonderful students.”
SFH6, the joint Sydenham and Forest Hill School Sixth Form, has enjoyed strong A Level success in recent years and, despite the complexities surrounding this year’s post-16 results, we are very proud of all of our Year 13 students and the way in which they have managed these last few difficult months with fortitude and dignity. We would like to thank all of our families for their sterling support of our students as well.
The students, who would normally have taken their A Level exams in May and June, received their externally moderated results on the morning of Thursday 13 August 2020.
As always, there were some remarkable individual results and we maintained the trend of large numbers of students gaining places at sought-after Russell Group universities and other prestigious institutions.
We are delighted to be able to congratulate our three SFH6 students going on to further study at Oxford and Cambridge.
Mrs Lowe, Headteacher, said: “The pandemic has been an unexpected and difficult experience with the class of 2020 being particularly hard hit by the ramifications of it. Our students have had to ‘dig deep’ and to be extraordinarily resilient. They deserve our ongoing support and best wishes as they move onto what we hope will be bright futures.
I am sure that you would want to join me in thanking staff for their hard work and supporting our students to be successful. We are delighted that so many students have been able to progress onto their chosen destinations and of course we wish them every deserved future success’.

Secondary Urban Debate League 2020 – Round 1 Results! What fantastic results from the Sydenham School teams.
The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and the Metropolitan Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. We know that children can be significantly physically or emotionally harmed when this is the case and the information received will be used to make sure the right support is available for children and their families.
Operation Encompass will ensure that two members of the school staff, known as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, are trained to allow them to liaise with the police. The Safeguarding Leads will use the information confidentially, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children or their families who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our students and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved. If you have any concerns or questions then please contact one of our school’s Safeguarding Leads (Ms Quartey or Ms Robinson) and we will be happy to discuss this further.
