Sydenham School PTA Speakers Event
Avoid disappointment, book your tickets NOW!! for our inspiring speakers event on Thursday 2 November from 6:30pm to celebrate Black History Month. With this year's 75th anniversaries of both NHS and the Windrush and with the overall theme of 'Saluting our Sisters', we have some amazing speakers who have just 4 minutes each to pitch for us their passions, insights and experiences - including:
- Monique Ajayi, BRIT School graduate and stand-out star in BBC1's reality travel series
- NneNne Iwuji the UK’s first Black woman Ambassador, now Netflix writer
- Roselyn Unegbu, former Head of Gas Construction at National Grid
- Amelia Donkor, Royal Shakespeare Company actor
- Beverley Bogle, expert nurse and midwife
- Hajira Mahomed, BBC News head of diversity and inclusion.
And we will also enjoy contributions and poetry from some brilliant Sydenham students - be there to find out who!
So come and join the conversation - let’s celebrate Black History Month and raise more funds for the school. Last year’s PTA fundraising benefitted EVERY year group and curriculum area in some way - from a new piano to garden club equipment, from mental health expertise for parents to performing arts equipment, from cultural and year group trips to end of school prom.
All ticket sales are donations to the Sydenham School PTA and free tickets are available for people on low incomes. There is also an opportunity to donate something extra if you can. We'd also LOVE contributions of cakes or baked goods to sell at our fully licenced bar on the night - so we can boost our fundraising for OUR students even further.
Reserve your tickets NOW at www.sydenham-school-pta.org/post/our-inspirational-speakers-for-2023 and find more info on our speakers and their 4 minute themes at: https://tinyurl.com/Sydenham School BHAM
The school has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly between schools and the Metropolitan Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic incident. We know that children can be significantly physically or emotionally harmed when this is the case and the information received will be used to make sure the right support is available for children and their families.
Operation Encompass will ensure that two members of the school staff, known as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, are trained to allow them to liaise with the police. The Safeguarding Leads will use the information confidentially, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children or their families who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident. We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our students and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved. If you have any concerns or questions then please contact one of our school’s Safeguarding Leads (Ms Quartey or Ms Robinson) and we will be happy to discuss this further.
International Connections; Limitless possibilities
